A particularly handsome tulip, award-winning Orange Emperor has huge, wide petals in a gorgeous shade of deep tangerine-orange to amber colour, the bright orange colour transitions to apricot and green as it moves to the centre. It has large, long-lasting blooms. The strong stems, with bright green leaves, make this variety especially wind-resistant, and the bulbs will naturalise well if they are given the correct care and attention in a position they enjoy.
Grow it in a mixed herbaceous border, or in a large pot. ‘Orange Emperor’ makes a fantastic cut flower too.
Tulip Orange Emperor is an early flowering variety that will produce flowers from March-April. Ideal time for planting is late October or early November, by which time the first frosts will have reduced disease levels in the soil. Grows best in fertile, well-drained, soil in full sun.
