This Tulip 'Merlot' is a rich, sumptuous deep purplish violet to reddish burgundy tulip. It is elegant, and has pointed re-flexed petals that open further and further as they age. Its luxuriant tones bring a unique depth of colour to the spring garden.

Tulip 'Merlot' demands to be planted in masse for a feature display, along pathways or in the garden border. 'Merlot' looks superb in a formal bedding scheme, it can also be planted in patio containers, also good for cut flowers.

Plant tulip bulbs from mid to late autumn (September to December) in sun or partial shade; they prefer to be planted into soils that are cooling down after the summer. It will provide a season of flowering from February right through to May.
