SCARECROWS WITH STYLE

Michael Jackson and his scarecrow friends were put through their paces over the Bank holiday weekend, following a Sunday and Monday filled with fierce competition at Carpenders Park Nursery’s scarecrow festival.

Held at the garden centre in Little Oxhey Lane. Watford, the festival, which included a local farmers market, craft and jewellery stalls, children’s rides and the all important scarecrow competition, raised money for Greenfingers, an organisation that creates magical gardens for children’s hospices.

Categories for under 16s, over 16s and group entries were judged via a public ballot on Monday, with winners awarded a selection of goodies: a DS Lite for the under 16s, a Nintendo Wii for over 16s and an Argos voucher for £200 for the group participants.

Organiser, Karen Wilkinson, said: “We had a great turnout, with more than 2,000 people turning up on the Monday. We’ve decided to continue with the Farmer’s Market on a monthly basis and are now busy planning for our November festival which will welcome Father Christmas”.

“It should be another really good festival for Carpenders Park Nursery, promising lots of fun for everyone.”
